7Y Energy

Energy has been brought into sharp focus recently, not just as the cost has increased so steeply, but also as the whole subject of carbon and the balance between maintaining economic growth whilst reducing our contribution to climate change gains momentum.

7Y is able to offer expertise in this key area which is independent and unbiased. We do not supply systems or equipment and our advice therefore comes with no agenda, you get the benefit of our knowledge and experience to determine which strategy best fits the needs of your business, not ours.

Our team has expertise in the facilitation and management of energy projects ranging from small-scale installations for businesses and farms to working with multi-national companies on the implementation of wide-ranging energy strategies.

Current projects:

  • Energy consultancy and feasibility study for a free range poultry producer to identify suitable sources of renewable energy for the business including biomass, solar and wind.
  • Consultancy and facilitation to achieve a waste management and energy generation strategy for a multi-national food business.
  • Renewable energy consultancy for a farming business implementing wind and solar generation equipment including sourcing of grant funding.
  • Review of a first generation, straw fired, heat only installation to determine whether installation of updated technology and use of a different fuel source can be justified
  • Engaged in a project aiming to develop a 2.7 MWe combined heat and power facility. 7Y's involvement will be to provide the fuel supply and potentially to facilitate the equity element of the capital investment.

Frank Arden Memorial Study - The Carbon Footprint of UK Agriculture

7Y played a key role in assisting Julian Morgan with the research project "Agriculture's Role in Energy Production from Biomass and Waste" supported by the Frank Arden Memorial Award, part of the Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust.

In researching and producing this report, both Julian Morgan and Richard Jackson of 7Y travelled across the UK and Europe to review installed renewable energy technologies, concentrating on biomass (mass burn) for both heat only and combined heat and power, gasification and anaerobic digestion.

The results of the research were presented to the Frank Arden Conference in April 2008. The full report and further information on the Frank Arden Memorial Study can be found at www.thecarbonfootprintofbritishagriculture.com
