A tank of fuel used to cost £250 it now costs £1500+ !
The price of fuel is now a major concern to all businesses, and fuel
security should be taken very seriously in the light of an increase in fuel thefts from both domestic and commercial premises.
Take the following steps and make it harder for thieves to gain access to your tanks:
- Place tanks within sight of nearby domestic buildings, not hidden behind outbuildings or large machinery
- Locate control switches in a secure building and turn off electricity when the tank is not in use
- Use a high quality shackled padlock to help prevent using bolt croppers
- Lock tank valves rather than nozzles and hoses which are vulnerable to cutting
- Install security lighting, CCTV and external alarms
- Don't leave fuel bowsers visible from the road or in a field over night. It only takes a minute for an opportunist thief to hook up and drive away
Remember you may not be covered by your insurance policy if you don't take adequate security precautions.
