Agricultural Vehicles on the road ...
Mike Braithwaite, the country's leading consultant on agricultural traffic law, gave a presentation, recently hosted by 7Y.
Here is a short resume of some of the points Mike raised:
- Notify police prior to traveling on the road if you have mounted or trailed appliances between 3 and 3.5 metres wide; mark projections
- Fit end marker boards to forward or rearward projections of between 2.0 and 3.0 metres. This may include most medium sized mounted ploughs
- Use correct lighting at night and in reduced visibility
- Rebated fuel may be used by a contractor to 'deliver and spread' waste to land for the sole purpose of enriching the land, not to dispose of waste
- Rebated fuel should be permitted for use in an agricultural tractor if a farmer is transporting waste or by-product material from any type of producer site to their land for their own use, whether the material is paid for by the collector or free.
This is only a brief summary of a very complex issue and the information is believed to be correct but cannot be relied upon.
