Make the most of your manure
High fertiliser prices are making it essential to make the most of any farm manures that you have available.
Nutrient analysis - make certain of what your manure contains; refer to DEFRA Fertiliser Recommendations Book(RB209)as a guide or arrange for an accurate analysis to be done quickly and cheaply by a reputable lab
Timing and Method of application - critical to ensuring best possible usage of nutrients available. Applications to arable land should be made accurately and incorporated within 24 hours. Any delay in hot weather increases the loss of nitrogen to the atmosphere. This also applies to the application of manure before planting autumn crops rather than in spring. In short, if you apply in March before planting spring crops, you could increase the amount of Nitrogen available from your manure by up to 35 percent compared to an autumn application
Spreaders - technology is developing rapidly, helping farmers achieve more from manures; it has now reached levels where manures can be accurately top dressed to arable crops in spring
Injector tankers and umbilical systems - better use of nutrients are made when slurries are applied by this method and also more compliant with pending regulations. This equipment is available from 7Y.
7Y can supply a range of manures and compost as well as giving advice on manure management.
