We all know how the internet has changed our lives in so many ways. However with spammers and phishers and countless other scams out there on the web, it can feel more like the wild wild west rather than the world wide web!

Safety on the web has become paramount in today's e-commerce society. In order to properly protect your personal information there are a number of steps you should take.

• Make sure your windows updates are enabled and scheduled for when your computer is usually on
  
• Use strong passwords - 'password' would become 'P4sSw0rd' use upper and lower case letters and numbers this will make your password harder to crack
  
• Use a good antivirus, antispyware and firewall software
  
• Your default security settings will give you an element of protection but if you start changing things and do not understand the consequences you may make things worse
