7Y's fuel efficiency course for tractor drivers gets LANTRA accreditation
The Fuel Efficiency Awareness Training (FEAT) has been granted LANTRA accreditation which gives it national recognition.
Developed by 7Y Services in Leominster last summer, this machinery operation course is the first in the country and it has been exceptionally well received with more courses now being set up.
"It really has struck a cord with farmers," says director of 7Y Nick Tilt, who points out that with some tractor dealers suggesting that a good operator can save 25% of its fuel consumption which easily equated to £5000-£6000 every year when diesel prices were at their peak last year, it really is an opportunity not to be missed.
The course places emphasis on understanding the complex dynamics of power, weight, torque and hydraulics.
With fuel costs representing 20% of total costs when using your tractor, it's worth checking out overall efficiencies to maximise performance.
The course is designed specifically for those involved in rural business who want to find out ways of achieving maximum performance most efficiently. Developed out of the road haulage industry, the day's course looks at the overall use of operating a tractor with maximum efficiency in mind. Looking at all the factors which influence fuel consumption, the course investigates driving styles, tyres, type size of vehicle, maintenance, size of field right down to the storage of fuel. Ultimately, whether you are cutting grass, ploughing, forage harvesting, spraying, fertilising or just hauling, this course aims to get you to understand how a number of efficiencies can easily be made to save you money.
Next date for an available course is Tuesday May 19. Please call Andrew Meredith to book. Tel: 01568 619 117 or email andrew.meredith@7y.co.uk
