Calling all tractor drivers
With funding in place under one of the first delivery contracts awarded under the Lantra Landskills programme, 7Y is now able to offer its fuel efficiency courses to tractor drivers at a much reduced price.
Dates for this one day course, developed by 7Y and highly popular on its launch last summer, will be on Wednesday 28 October, Monday 23 November, and Friday 18 December.
According to 7Y’s Chief Executive, Julian Morgan, “With oil prices steadily rising again this year, we will see the costs of the harvest and the drilling once again under the spot light, particularly as grain and potato prices have fallen so rapidly” he says, pointing out that steps to reduce fuel costs by a reported 20% - quoted by participants of the course - has to be highly attractive in today’s climate.
Developed by 7Y last summer and known as the Fuel Efficiency Awareness Training (FEAT), the thrust of this one day session are the factors influencing fuel consumption, ranging from driving style, maintenance, tyre pressures and ballasting for maximum tractive efficiency to pre-operating checks and optimal engine speeds for power, torque and fuel consumption.
Operators are trained to better understand their machine characteristics, make critical adjustments and match gears and speed to maximise efficiency. It also consists of a practical session where a dynamometer will be used to demonstrate the relationship between power, engine speed and optimum fuel efficiency.
